PAPAVER DUBIUM subsp. DUBIUM
Including:- Subsp. lecoqii, differing chiefly by its dark yellow to orange latex.

General description:- Erect, annual.
Stem:-
1) 10-90 cm, erect.
Leaves:-
1) 1- or 2-pinnate with antrorse segments.
a) pedicels, long, slender, erect, sparsely to densely appressed-setose.
2) Upper, tripartite with pinnatifid to pinnatisect lobes. short petiolate to sessile.
Flowers:-
1) Pedicels, appressed-setose above.
2) Flower-buds, nodding, ovoid. glabrous to densely appressed-setose.
3) Sepals, usually without darker margins.
4) Petals, 15-30 mm, obovate, not or scarcely contiguous, outer pair, not
much larger than the inner, brick-red to orange-red or occasionally white, often
with a dark spot near base.
5) Anthers, dull yellow, brown or green.
Fruit:-
1) Capsule, 13-20 x 4-7 mm, narrowly obovoid, attenuate or slightly rounded at
the base, glabrous.
2) Stigmatic disc, broadly conical, with 5-7 rays.
Key features:-
1) Stigmatic disc, without dark marks between the rays.8.
2) Pedicels, with appressed setae.
3) Petals, outer pair not much larger than the inner.
4) Capsule 2-4.5 times as long as broad
Habitat:- Roadsides, scrub, open woodland. 0-800(-1600) m.
Distribution:- Throughout Greece. - Europe and SW Asia. Very rare on Crete
currently known with certainty from one area.
Flowering time:- Apr-June.
