Meaning:- Linum (L) Ancient name for flax.
                  Pubescens (L) Maturing, becoming downy-hairy.
               
General description:- Pubescent annual.

Stems:-
1) 7-20 cm tall, single-stemmed or often branched from base, softly patent-pilose 
    throughout.

Leaves:-
1) Up to 20 x 5 mm, lanceolate, to narrowly elliptic.

Flower:-
1) Inflorescence, rather dense, few-flowered with ascending branches.
2) Sepals, 8-10 mm, narrowly lanceolate, strongly veined below, sometimes the
    sometimes with glandular-ciliate margins.
3) Petals, 6-20 mm, dull pink with purple veins.
4) Anthers, blue.

Fruit:-
1) Capsule, 3·5-4·5 mm, subglobose.

Habitat:- Sandy flats, dry open shrubby vegetation , olive groves, open woodland.
0-900 m.

Distribution:- Peloponnisos and W. Greece, scattered in the interior, extending
into Albania. Limited distribution on Crete mainly confined to the far north west.

Flowering time:- Mid-Apr to early June.
