GLINUS LOTOIDES

Homotypic Synonyms:- None

Meaning:- Glinus Meaning unknown.
                  Lotoides (L) Resembling Lotus.

General description:- Annual herb, whole plant grey-tomentose with stellate
hairs.

Stems:-
1) 5-20 cm, several prostrate.

Leaves:-
1) Opposite or whorled, short-petiolate, blade broadly elliptic-obovate, obtuse.

Flowers:-
1) Perianth segments, (sepals) 4.5-6 mm, elliptical.
2) Stamens, c. 12. slender, petaloid staminodes present between the sepals and
    stamens.

Fruit:-
1) Capsule, equalling the persistent sepals, opening by 5 valves.
2) Seeds, with conspicuous strophiole.

Habitat:- Alluvial plains and mudflats, sometimes ruderalised, in coastal habitats
and near lakes and streams.

Distribution:- Scattered on mainland Greece and Peloponnisos. Widespread in
tropical and warm-temperate regions of the Old World. Rare on Crete originally
known only from two locations, with a more recent find in 2019 at the Aposelemis
dam by Popi Bormpoudaki
