Homotypic Synonyms:- Allium longispathum.
Meaning:- Allium (L) The ancient Latin name for garlic.
Dentiferum (L) Tooth-bearing.
General description:- Very variable medium to tall bulbous perennial.
Bulb:-
1) Ovoid, with numerous bulblets, outer tunics dark brown, membranous.
Stem:-
1) 40-90 cm, sheathed halfway by 5 or 6 leaves.
Leaves:-
1) Linear, fistulose.
Flowers:-
1) Spathe valves 2, persistent, lanceolate-filiform, at least the longer exceeding the
inflorescence.
2) Umbel, diffuse, many-flowered, pedicels unequal.
3) Flowers, campanulate, brownish or purplish-green.
4) Perianth segments, 5.5-6.5 mm, obtuse, apiculate.
5) Anthers, included.

Habitat:- Dry open shrubby vegetation, vineyards, olive groves and ruderal
habitats.. 0-800 m.
Distribution:- Widespread in the Mediterranean area from Spain to Palestine. Rare
with limited distribution on Crete,
